Fall Foliage, Prairie Style

There are no native deciduous trees on the ranch, so Fall comes softly.  Mountain Mahogany, our dominant shrub, is covered with feathery seeds.  Their corkscrew shape helps seeds penetrate the ground.

Purple asters are everywhere, even in the yucca.

Some of the weeds have beautiful Fall color.
What?  Too pretty to be a weed?
If it's on the lunge pen pad, it's a weed!

I like that shot of the yucca. You don't expect to see flowers in the middle of them -- rather inhospitable plants.

I don't know that I've ever noticed Mountain Mahogany before. The seeds are so unusual.
I've been enjoying the subtle changes we have been experiencing here.
