The Sun'll Come Out...Tomorrow

It was -18 degrees F when we got up to feed this morning.  It seemed strange to see a rainbow.

It was supposed to get up to 0, but I'm pretty sure we're not going to make it.  It's 1pm and we've warmed up to -8.  The winds are blowing at 35mph.  Needless to say, the horses are stall-bound today.  It's +20F in the barn, which is the coldest it's ever been in there.  Delicate Paj has a sheet and two blankets on.  Zan, Boomer and Reggie each have two blankets on.  We are feeding extra rations and hand-walking inside the barn.  The sun will come out tomorrow.  It's supposed to get up to +8F.  Thursday we will be above freezing.  It'll feel like the tropics.

BRRRR! That's cold! It's getting close to the roller coaster weather again! Oh, the poor horses! Too bad they can't have electric blankets, but of course. I know that's silly. I suppose those "space blankets" are a bit too noisy for the horses.

Strange rainbow - pretty though!

Nice photo Terry! Hope the horse stay warm. They are tough though, right?

What is with the crazy weather this year? Try and stay warm. Keep telling yourself that each day that passes is one day closer to spring.

I'd send you some of our degrees if I could! We're supposed to hit 70 degrees tomorrow, but then drop off into the 40's. I hope you and the ponies stay warm out there!!

The rainbow is beautiful!!

This weather!!! Our high today was 21 degrees with a wind chill of 4 degrees. Which after seeing your temps I will not complain as loud as I was LOL...Tonight down to 12 degrees and I don't know what the wind chill will be. This is so not normal for us! But then in the last few winters we have seen things this part of Texas never has!! To answer your question we are in in East Texas. North East to be exact. My honeyman (David also) and I are NOT cold weather people! We joke we are going to have to move south if this keeps up!

Terry...L'orange learned a long time ago, how to go in and out of the basement (which is heated). He just goes out when he wants to. Tomorrow he gets neutered and will start coming in the house. Right now, he is still afraid of the dogs, so we have to get through that. We did have a storm last night and everything is closed down around here.

You caught an awesome weather phenomenon on camera called "parhelion" or "sundog" ... Absolutely gorgeous, congrats! :-)

I love your sun dog, too. Did you happen to notice if there was one on the other side of the sun? Often they mirror each other.
We must live near each other. We were at -21 with a -45 wind chill when I went out to the barn yesterday AM. My guys have thick wooly coats. I let them have the freedom to go in or out. They chose out. I did feed lots of extra hay. I've heard 2 pounds for every 10 degrees below 30. So...they got over 10 pounds extra yesterday! The day before (when I made the post about the tree) they would begin to run around and play as the effect of the groceries wore off - then I'd know it was time to give them more hay!
Stay warm! We'll be above freezing tomorrow, well maybe Friday.
