This year, I really want to keep riding over the winter, so I am looking into a half lease at a facility with an indoor arena. Tomorrow I will be trying an older mare with a lot of good years left in her - just like me! Her college student owner leaves Thursday for the semester. I hope this is a happy match for me, the horse, and the owner.

Winding Down
There's no doubt about it - summer is winding down. I had to wear sweat pants and a hoodie to do the barn chores this morning. The pasture grasses have gone to seed. Some say "like watching grass grow" to mean something really boring, but I like watching grass grow!
Look how green our grass is! That never happens this late in the season. It's been such a relief not to have to actively worry about fire danger this summer. It's been a grand summer. We've had very little wind, and I've been able to ride most days. I hope to get about another month of riding in before the weather turns.

Hello Terry,
Well, your grass is definitely greener!!
This is a great photograph looking through the seed heads of the grass. Most artistic. Who would believe that grass could be so fascinatingly beautiful?!
It sounds like a good arrangement for you to be able to ride over the winter. We do so hope it will all work out.
Definitely chilly here too......brrrr...
It is definitely getting cooler here too, I had to wear a vest and hoodie to catch my pony last night.
Sounds like your winter half-lease is a good match. :)
I'm so happy Colorado hasn't had the fires we had last year. It has been so much greener here, it's awesome!
Idyllic summer memories for me involve lying on the grass watching the world around me--from the insects at ground level to the clouds above. I'm glad you've had an idyllic summer
Crazy! Today it was almost 90 and very muggy here. The morning was nice and cool, but then we got blasted. Our grass is still very good and will probably stay that way. So glad this has not been a summer full of fires out there. How about a photo of the mare you may be leasing. Is she close to Moondance?
Hi Terry! I had planned to take a quick peek at your blog and simply couldn't stop reading. I just had to catch up on all that I've missed these wonderful summer weeks. I had to find out how Paj was doing ~ :) and if Boomer and Ben were gone ~ :( I'm not sure which is more magnificent, Red Rocks or Phamous, I'm glad that you had a fun day with your friend. Congrats to you on your progress with your weaving!
After all those fires, this summer must have been wonderful for you and the rest of your state. Not so here, of course, but at least the nights are getting cold with morning temps in the 40s.
We are also thrilled with the green. It is so amazing. our visiting horses went home today. There wasn't a rib showing after enjoying three weeks on grass - lovely green grass!
The lease sounds like a win/win situation. I'm thinking that would be a good solution. I hope it works out.
I've had great luck with my older horse, owner going to college situation. Good luck :-).
Very beautiful pictures, Terry!
I like watching grass grow too.
Your fence is beautiful and the mail box (or a house of birds)is very pretty.
