It's Raining...Caterpillars!

Our freakishly wet weather has brought us an invasion of caterpillars.  Redheaded pine sawflies, to be exact.

They're trimming our Ponderosa Pines

Our infestation is just a small nuisance infestation,
nothing like this -

Crazy weather bringing all kinds of problems. Here we have the bark beetle, not here, but on the mountain. We only have junipers here and they seem pretty resistant, but even they are now showing the effects of our drought. I hope your infestation won't get as bad as in that last picture.

Ooh dear, they have ruined those pine trees !
We have bag worms emerging right now, they can strip an Arborvitae bush bare.
The last picture is horrific..

First off, if I haven't mentioned it before, I really like the new header, Terry!
I think the bugs are going to TAKE OVER THE WORLD when we finish destroying it. Just a thought.
Glad you don't have the numbers in that photo!

Wow! We had some worms in our Oak trees a few years ago and had to have someone come in and take care of it. All that worm poo stained our concrete driveway. Glad your infestation isn't too bad!

I just saw something about the caterpillars on the news last night - and heard they had moved into our counties. How scary. After you posted this, I went to check our trees. So far, we are clear. I hope your infestation gets no worse.

Hello Terry,

We are not terribly good with insects of any kind and your invasion of caterpillars sounds most alarming to us. And, as for them stripping the Pine trees, well, we have to say that we should find that most depressing. You do manage to sound philosophical about it all......?Well, as you say, it could be worse!

Oh! These caterpillars eat the beautiful pine trees! What a bad invasion.

Hope you have a nice weekend! :)
